Tyndrum 24. Ben Lui at sunset.
Filling in the gap between the last 2 blips.
We came to Tyndrum to see how far we could run, I opted to go for 6 hours, Mr Rat for 12.
The race is 5 mile loops, unless you're doing the 24 hr option when they reduce to 4 mile ones.
I don't often take a camera with me for a race but such a brilliant day I carried it for the whole way and I've cheated by putting a collage of the best views in as an extra. Most pics were taken on lap 1 and 4. I managed 5 with the 5th requiring headtorch for most of it.
It was cold but just above freezing with very little wind, though those running later had it below zero and a bit of sleet.
The route crosses a river near the start and has a short, rough section, then climbs steadily in the forest before descending to the good track that goes to the farm and gold mines. At the point of joining the track there are great views up the glen to Ben Lui in his snowy glory.
Then a long descent (harder than you would think) with more greatest views to Ben More, Ben Challum and the Corbett above Tyndrum before going onto a narrow and undulating section of the West Highland Way which requires care.
A short section by the river and it's back to race HQ at the By the Way hostel for registering the lap, refuelling and setting off again.
Well organised and friendly event and well worth the painful legs in the last lap and stiffness now.
I've still not quite run a marathon!
Mr Rat did 10 laps/50 miles, his previous furthest was 50Km
