Corstorphine Hill walk

A wee wander up Corstorphine Hill this morning. Some snow on the west side, and the ground was frozen, but nothing to stop my friend and I, and our canine companion, making it to the tower. What I didn't get was any great views over towards the Pentlands as when we'd made it to the tower the wee dog had had enough and we turned back before finding the viewpoints in that direction.

I'd read the Walk of the Week in last weekend's Scotland on Sunday, so it seemed like a good idea to have a little excursion up the hill to see the tower.

In the article the author says there is nothing at the start of the walk for refreshments. So, I'm glad I've got a friend who lives near one of the routes up and who could provide coffee to warm us up afterwards. We'd recommend the Suburban Pantry at Blackhall, which is not too far away if you walk along Queensferry Road after your ascent, or plan your walk to include it.

The monument you can just make out through the trees is The Corstorphine Tower, a monument to Sir Walter Scott - not in the style of the Scott Monument, but a fine looking tower even so. You can read more here.
