Food for the chick

Food for the chick
Another day, more decisions, too many admissions requested by community teams, too few discharges. Work is far from satisfying, although today actually felt more under control.

Another post work walk around Western Springs Lake, where I was able to get the first 2020 photos of a couple more birds. Rather pleased with the photo I have blipped and the one I've put up as an extra. The Australian Coot is one of the most numerous bird species at the Springs, and in a way its odd that I hadn't already got a photograph this year. But despite their being plentiful, their tendency to dodge around in the shadows or suddenly dive, makes it more difficult than expected to get a decent picture.

And there is a story to these two photos. The chick is quite big, and smaller and younger papango ducklings are diving and feeding themselves. This one merely paddled around near the rock it was standing on waiting for mother to come back with the food. She tried to demonstrate what the chick should do with a number of brief dives; it looked the other way. She dived and came up with some weed which she then swallowed; no response. After a few minutes she surfaced from a dive with a piece of weed, and offered to the chick which took and swallowed it.
