Cutting Loose
...in the sunshine while it lasted. I met lots of dogs and their owners including golden retrievers Billie and Stevie who I met first on December 16. After the second mile, the sun hid behind the clouds and never came back out.
The morning started with brilliant sunshine and birds galore. The winterberries in front have been all but totally stripped so now the feast continues in the hollies on the side and in the backyard. There was much one-upsmanship at the bird bath.
We have not been feeling well around here for days. A couple of hours of regular activity and then blah. I was glad to get out to walk as that was the only time I felt good all day. I haven't been able to keep up with your journals. :(
CUTTING LOOSE
Sometimes from sorrow, for no reason,
you sing. For no reason,
you accept
the way of being lost, cutting loose
from all else and electing
a world
where you go where you want to.
Arbitrary, a sound comes, a
reminder
that a steady center is holding
all else. If you listen, that
sound
will tell you where it is and you
can slide your way past
trouble.
Certain twisted monsters
always bar the path - but that's when
you get going best, glad to be lost,
here
on earth, again and again.
- - - William Stafford
I hope you encounter no monsters tomorrow!
