English Level 4

I belong to a volunteer organisation called AVF (stands for Accueil des Villes Françaises); it is aimed at providing a welcoming environment for people finding themselves in a new town. However, it has rather ‘loose’ rules on how long you can be a ‘newcomer’ to a town. Many of the members stay for decades!  There are all manner of activities, from walking, to sewing, to computing and languages. As volunteers, we are not allowed to ‘teach’, simply ‘animate’ sessions. This is my group - the top English conversation team. Today, we read through (in English) then discussed the first chapter of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. We also discussed Harry & Meghan, Macron’s Pension Reforms and the likelihood of me sticking with my diet. Homework for next week is to bring me their favourite chicken recipes (to read out) so that I can be more adventurous. They are fun, with the Doyenne of the group well into her late 80’s.
