Bridges
An excellent Ramblers walk today, with many fine views. Quite muddy underfoot in places and very windy, but thankfully it stayed dry and not too cold.
Starting at Abercorn Church, parts of which date from the 12th Century, and its small museum containing a 6th Century cross and Viking hogsback stones, we walked through the Hopetoun Estate and along part of the John Muir Way.
Our route also afforded excellent views of the three Forth Bridges (pictured) before we dropped down to the shoreline at the small village of Society. During our lunch stop we saw oystercatchers and curlews as well as a number of different gulls on the shore.
Our return route, the early part of which was into the teeth of the gale, provided us with views of Blackness Castle and Midhope Castle, as well as Hopetoun House. One of these rare days when I was spoiled for choice when it came to deciding which photo to use as my Blip for the day.
A warming bowl of soup in a nearby garden centre was a good way to end the afternoon.
