1917
Up town to meet McC the Younger in the big steamed up coffee shop to have a good catch up. Not that I’d like to minute the conversation here, but some of it was quite anatomical.
Home via Trinity Glazing who confirm that incredibly enough (I know,
incroyable!) the industry leading secondary glazing units don’t allow access to the mechanism of the original sash. So if your sash cord snaps, you’ve to take the unit out. But more importantly you can’t clean the outside of lower sash from inside so you’ll need a window cleaner or a ladder. TBC.
Later out to see 1917 which right from the off drags you in - that nightmarish crawl across no-mans land was totally compelling and felt as authentic as you could possibly imagine. But some time later on (crossing the canal) it all becomes a bit, well daft (Skyfall!) and plausibility becomes just that bit too stretched. Still, it ends strongly enough for what is after all a bit of a slight story. It would make a decent enough video game, but the central performance by Tom Hanks in Private Ryan has sooo much more emotional impact than George Mackay’s here. I suppose it doesn’t help that he looks slightly Michael Crawfordish. Good fun spotting the other celebs getting a part mind.
