A Change Is As Good As A Rest
I finally got round to changing my mobile phone contract. I knew I was being ripped off 25 Euros a month for 200MB of browsing (no really), and either 100 minutes of calls or 100 texts (but only to other Telekom customers, call or message anyone on a different network and it cost extra).
So I cancelled the contract last February - there's a year long wait to cancel your contract (Customer Service slothing into action) because everyone at Telekom types really, really slowly and not because they are rip-off merchants, good heavens no.
And because I cancelled my contract last February it took them until this month to realise that they were going to lose some money. So they set one of their Customer Retention Specialists on my trail. You know, the "if you stay we'll give you a unicorn, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and 3 wishes" sort of thing.
Except this is Deutschland and it works a bit differently here. Here is the complete exchange:
Man calls me up and introduces himself.
He then asks me why I want to leave Telekom.
I say because it's way too expensive and I've found a better & cheaper offer.
Man from Telekom says Thanks and Bye
Really that was it. Translated from the German obviously.
I hope you appreciate the subtle way he tried to get me to stay. It was so subtle that it appears as if he made absolutely no effort whatsoever.
