History of Lady Liberty

Laurie54 is hosting MonoMondays and today's theme is Time... I didn't find a rhyme on the word Time, but have this photo in my pocket of the wooden version of Lady Liberty, realised by the sculptor Sànchez Castillo. This statue stands at the entrance of the head office of a dutch bank in Utrecht (where I'd noticed it Friday last).

On internet I found some info from the bank on this Liberty Statue in their entrance and it's the history of the NY Liberty Statue reveiled in that info that I consider my link to Laurie's theme Time.... History of Lady Liberty!

That info is the following:

'The Statue of Liberty was donated by France to the American people to celebrate the end of the Civil War. For many, the statue became the symbol of freedom in the land of unlimited possibilities. The initiator of the Statue of Liberty was Frenchman Edouard de Laboulaye, he is known as a fierce opponent of slavery in America.

The French Artist and maker of Lady Liberty, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, is said to have initially created a draft version of a Lady Liberty with an African American Identity.

Intrigued by the idea that this rumor might be true and the impact of it, Sánchez Castillo proceeded to develop his own version of the Statue of Liberty. He searches for a balance between the stories and the intentions of the past and the present. Sanchez Castillo applied subtle changes to the original design, yet they are at the same time radical. The monumental size of the image naturally also plays a role in the experience.'

And thank you all for leaving stars and words on my recent entries, so much appreciated!
