Drama at the Seaside
We decided to have a walk at Aberdeen seafront today. We parked near Fittie and walk along the front. The tide was fully in and the waves were crashing forcefully against the sea wall.
We had not gone far when we saw a drama unfolding. Two dogs had gone into the sea, and were unable to get out. Every time they tried to climb out of the sea a wave would drag them back in again. A man went into the sea to try to rescue them. He was unable to help them and got into difficulty himself. He could not stand due to the waves and could not get out of the sea either. The side of the sea wall is steep and and the waves kept throwing him back into the sea.
I was heading to get a lifebelt but somebody else (younger, fitter and stronger) got there first. With help from bystanders holding onto the rope attached to the lifebelt, another man was able to lower himself down the side of the sea wall. This man managed to rescue both dogs and the man in difficulty who was still strong enough to hold onto the life belt and be dragged up the side of the sea wall.
All ended well, but we sometimes hear of people being drowned when they try to rescue a dog. Without the help of people passing by both dogs, and the man who tried to save them, would all have drowned.
After this drama we continued our walk! The sun was shining but out of the sun it was quite cool.
