Arucas cathedral
The weather is trying to harden us up in preparation for our return to the UK tomorrow. It rained in Arucas.
We had gone to see a garden, recommended in a book we have. El Jardin de la Marquesa Arucas. It was deserted when we arrived, we had to ring a bell for attendance. Not a large garden, and unlike the other ones we have visited on this holiday (which have been free entry), it cost us 6 Euros each entry fee. Which makes the neglect of the plant labels even less excusable. If there are no labels on plants at all, that is fine – labels, I feel, are essential in a garden that calls itself “a botanical garden”, but in an ordinary garden, if there are no labels, so be it. BUT, if you are going to put labels, at least they should be legible! These were frequently completely indecipherable.
The lady in charge, having taken our money, then showed us the way to the little cafe, where she made us coffee. We admired the peacocks (shaking peacock, 1st extra, immature peacock 2nd extra), then spent a pleasant hour wandering around. There were some interesting plants, even though the labels were deficient! (flowering money tree, will ours do that?, unusual araucaria - not you usual Norfolk Island pine or Monkey Puzzle, exact one unknown)
Afterwards, we wanted to do a little shopping, so drove into the town, where we found a parking space beside the cathedral. We bought some essentials, then had lunch at an outdoor table, right under the cathedral – the cafe had WiFi, so I was able to post yesterday's blip. Whilst we were eating, a very cold wind was blowing, so we had to retreat into the cafe for our coffee.
Then it was time to drive back to our apartment, where we still have no WiFi.
Now for the packing.
