Three cheers for Samira Ahmed!

I find it depressing that it’s still front page news that women often get paid less than men for doing the same job. In the case of Samira Ahmed, it was reported that she was paid £440 an episode versus the £3,000 an episode Jeremy Vine received for hosting a similar programme.

In her eloquent speech, Ahmed thanked the Ford Dagenham women for their efforts to secure equal pay for equal work in the 1960s. The Equal Pay Act was passed in the UK in 1970 - that’s 50 years ago, folks. We’ve made progress since then, but it needs to speed up.
