Gnarled resilience

Given the weather today I knew I would be spending most of the day indoors. I had not signed up to join the 80,000 or so marchers for independence in Glasgow.

So I thought a walk to the newsagent would be beneficial. It was, if a little wet.

On my way I passed a garden in which there was this solitary and clearly long established rose. Here we are in mid-January, torrential rain and very high winds, yet this rose has produced shoots and some flowers at this time of year. Remarkable.
