Diary of an Edinburgher

Cinema afternoon?

The predicted showers and winds were there this morning for Archie's walk round the block (with JR), but luckily Elizabeth was not to be put off! She changed her plans and took him in the car to visit her Aunt Helen. She had lots of newspapers, paper towels and towels just in case of sickness. Which he was, on the way home. He got lots of treats, but none of the ones he's drooling over here, I hope.

We had planned to go and see see 'Little Women' - a rainy afternoon is the perfect for sitting in a dark cinema. And so we drove out to one of the out of town shopping centres which has a big cinema, free parking etc. The place was mobbed - lots of kids buying up huge amounts of sweeties and fizzy drinks, going to watch 'Frozen' presumably. I could only see three other white haired ladies in the long queue who might be going to the same one as us.

But no. It was 'booked up'. It's a 'smaller cinema' with a 'smaller screen'. I didn’t know there was such a thing in these big multiplexes. 'There's another showing at 4.30' the chap said helpfully.

And so that idea was abandoned, and our minds turned to thoughts of food. Yes - there was our favourite pizza restaurant right beside it. It was huge. It was NOISY - full to brim with families, all of them yelling. In a weak moment, we let ourselves be shown to a table. At least the screeching children drowned out the screeching muzak, but we will not be rushing back to that venue.

JR then persuaded me to come 'shopping'. The rain had stopped, and there were so many big chain stores within walking distance. In another weak moment, I agreed.

I did get a nice tee shirt which was marked down to £5, so it was worth it. And JR got the items she'd wanted, with money back on her card, which always delights her.
