for a year without resolutions

I have always believed that the tradition of making new year’s resolutions chains people down. It traps them into a conflict between eating that cupcake or not, going to that party or not, doing those daily push-ups or not. The feeling of hope that these “goals” give to the person on the last day of December transform into an intolerable weight of failure once they are not fulfilled throughout the year.

Here’s to a new year with no resolutions.
