Once upon a Time.........

............ there was this girl......... who met this boy.......... and they fell in love.

She was 17 and at college. He was 18 and a soldier. They first clapped eyes on each other, in a disco. (they weren't called nightclubs back then :)
She was out with friends................... and he was busy getting his faced slapped repeatedly by a girl who he had obviously insulted.

He obviously did something to impress this girl of 17 (I'm sure it wasn't just the uniform thing :) and so they began to date.
He would travel a long way from his base in Ripon in a clapped out old Mazda with a hole in the floor on the passenger side and which should never have been on the road every single weekend he could to see her.
In between those times, they wrote each other letters. Lots of letters. (Mainly because phone calls were rare and mobile phones hadn't even been invented yet!)
He would send her black fruit gums through the post because he knew they were her favourite....

Unfortunately, there was no 'carrying out of the factory scenes' but he did once visit while still in his scratchy uniform to find this girl lying ill in bed with a severe case of tonsillitis. Considering she looked terrifying........... it didn't put him off.

They could be a very volatile couple when together. They fought a lot. They put as much passion into falling out as they did to everything else. She stormed out a lot, he chased after her a lot. One time, she even got as far as a few hundred yards out the door before he came zooming after her in that car, that he didn't have a license for but obviously she couldn't give in right away so he did end up doing a few drive bys :)
They used to play this a lot :)

She was very shy (yes folks she was :) while he could be the most infuriating, arrogant person she had ever came across ....... was not.....

A perfect recipe for a relationship.

3 Months after having first met, she wrote a letter to her mum and dad, explaining how much she loved this boy..........

............. and they ran away, (all of 20 odd miles) on her 18th Birthday, on the train........... to Edinburgh.........

To be continued...........
