A useful tip!!
A pocketable substitute, for a monopod!...just tie the string in a slip knot, around the projecting screw on the camera tripod mount, as in the illustration, screw it into the tripod socket of your camera, cut the string so it reaches the ground with your camera at eye level, then you help eliminate camera shake by pulling the camera viewfinder up to your eye, with your foot placed firmly on the length of the string itself, a suitable length, according to your particular height. It does work, no question!
