Whirling Skirts
Children in dazzling colored traditional dress twirled, stomped, and bowed to their partners as they performed dances that represented different areas of Oaxaca. A brass band played the music (non-stop for 2 hours) a rocket burst into the air to announce the beginning of each performance, people threw candy and oranges into the laughing crowd, and of course there were some fireworks at the end.
I don't know the reason for the occasion, but it all happened in the Plaza de la Danza around the corner from us. Whatever they do, it's always a fiesta!
