Hard hat hello

As construction sites go, the one near my work has stretched on for over a year. There's a construction guard who's there every day. Our relationship started when he mimicked my exaggerated hand signal as I turn from a busy road, just beyond his post. It made me laugh. Now every morning we shout HELLO over traffic noise. He noticed when I changed bicycle. I noticed when he changed hard hat. All communicated by rushed hand signs and smiles. My mornings are just a little duller when he's on leave.
