Tiny Memories
Interesting things memories. They often come back from tiny little reminders and then develop into stories of significance. This afternoon I went hunting through my treasures of the past cupboard and found this lighthouse ornament. I think I spent my pocket money on this when I was abut 8 when on holiday with my parents on the Isle of Wight at Alum Bay where a lot of the coloured sand is. I also have a memory of filling up one of the sort of test tube shapes you could buy to make your own ornament. If course, that one is long gone, sands all mixed together in a sandy brown, but this one has stayed pretty intact and I have always loved it. Now it brings back memories of family holidays with granny, mom and dad, and the Portsmouth relatives. So many memories. One particular one of me "Getting the Hump" as my Mom used to call it because I was feeling grumpy and got worse when everyone was laughing at me so I walked off sulking ahead of everyone else at Carisbrooke Castle and then they laughed more because the toggle of my nasty brown anorak had got stuck between my legs and was wobbling as I walked off in my grumpiness... deep unhappiness... I must have recovered eventually. What a sulky 8 year old! It's difficult to come out of a grump sometimes isn't it? Especially when it feels like the whole world is against you.
So there you are. One tiny memory. A big significant story.... Makes me wonder about myself... And the sulks we get into some times... Life is too short for sulking isn't it?
