My Islington

I took 55 photos today. About 4 were decent. The remaining 51 were just as good, but more from a personal perspective rather than a technically-correct photographic one.

This evening, I took a return flight from London City to Edinburgh. It was the usual mid-week evening flight. I went through the motions, as I had done for two years. My actions reminded me of Nat Geo's Steve Mc Curry and his video about using the last ever Kodachrome film. using Kodak's film.

I wouldn't deign to compare my situation quite to the same degree, but McCurry's 'last actions' did resonate, namely, how you've done certain actions so many times before but you realise you really are part of something for the very last time.

For McCurry, it was putting 35mm film into the camera FOR THE LAST TIME. For me, for the last time, it was switching off my computer screen, it was the last time I would run to catch the DLR, the last time I would swipe my Metrocard, buy sparkling water yet order white wine with ice and mix it with my already-paid sparkling water to save some.

So, I have many photos, but this one is a favourite because it has colour, it is how it was every day. And it feels calm.

My canal, my Islington.
