The Kipper Season.

Many market stalls were closed today. Between the Christmas sales and spring, trade is slow in what is known as 'The Kipper Season' when  the public had spent their money on the Christmas festivities. In the past the  market traders would survive on cheap food, hence the kippers. However, Cambridge market being normally  busy, the empty stall holders are more likely to be sunning themselves on a faraway tropical beach. I know some that take the opportunity to holiday at this time of year.
