Grouped Trees
Another day, another walk. A circuitous route ending up at the gym to meet up with L for lunch.
I started by heading away from the gym, along the canal towpath, before crossing onto an abandoned railway line, now part of the national cycle network. On my travels I watched a fox, brazenly walking behind a group of houses in broad daylight. Even my presence didn't seem to phase him. I'm sure he knew I couldn't get across the canal to disturb him.
Then an unusual sight of a cormorant in the canal. I hadn't been sure what it was initially, but as I got closer and it flew off, the shape was unmistakable. I did a bit of research about their prevalence in inland areas and was surprised to read a report going back to 2005 when special licences were handed out to kill those found inland. Apparently, they are not popular with anglers.
I do photograph these trees from time to time and it always make me smile that the farmer has left them in the middle of an arable field. Always make me wonder if there are tree preservation orders on them, preventing their felling.
