New Town Art

We found ourselves in Livingston tonight without a blip. We live nearby and our visits are becoming increasingly common. However, it is taking some time to master the geography of the town. In common with other new towns, it is not short of roundabouts with straight lines not within the the planners vocabulary.

The sides of the roads have been heavily planted which is, of course, wonderful. These trees and shrubs have matured making it difficult to get a sense of your location - apart from on a road in Livingston.

I'm not complaining about all this - just that it'll take us some time to figure it out. Meantime, especially at night, when we go from point A to Point B we get a strange feeling that we go on the same road more than once and the route has been unnecessarily circular.

Again, as with other new towns, Livingston has a wonderful tradition of public art. there are some stunning pieces around and some not so stunning but with equal right to be seen. There is a future project ahead for me to visit each of these pieces and give them some time.

In the absence of natural landmarks, they act as reference points for navigation. This one sits outside Sainsbury's. Apologies that I haven't been able to find out more about it. Part of that future project and future blip.
