Not Keld Well
St.Cuthbert’s, Dufton
Small obsessions and a bitty day.
After a sluggish start I danced for a while (2mins20seconds) to a bit of Ry Cooder and Galban to try and gird myself for a bit of sorting. I moved things from A to B and from C to A and made made bigger piles of stuff out of smaller piles of stuff...goodness knows how it breeds. Then I made a bid for freedom and heading off too late to do anything much I went to check out a nagging holy well. I knew Paula had looked for it before https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2151025602415558830 but I wondered if mid-winter with everything died back might help to see any signs of it. I went to look at the little church and then bit the bullet and went into the field and circumnavigated the fenced enclosure anticipating being shot any minute by a passing farmer. No joy really. I’ve added an extra of what felt a bit different as I looked down to where it roughly should be. I’ll tag it anyway because I had a good search and suspect it may be lost sadly but it’s where it is supposed that St.Cuthbert’s body was rested and it became a place of pilgrimage and healing.
Then I decided to walk a bit so drove along lanes that made me wonder if I had drifted off-road onto farm tracks with the most lovely shows of startling light and dark as the sun shone through the clouds (main blip).
I then went to follow the geology trail at Dufton but was put off by cows and so headed back through the village expecting a sign pointing to ‘Paula’s House’ so I could post a book in but strangely there wasn’t one and it’s a big village!
It was still light and wanting to make the most of it before being entombed all week I went to get some kindling from the village and went up onto Heughscar at dusk.
