Trooper

This little man has been annoyed by flies, affected by the heat, burned his tootsies on the hot ground and been totally out of his comfort zone. He's been a total trooper throughout.

So, it turned out that we made a good choice to leave when we did; the roads from our previous campsite were closed yesterday, so we'd have been evacuated anyway.

At about 2 pm, we spotted a police car approaching. They confirmed what we suspected; that we were going to have to leave. We packed up in record time, and got out of the bush; destination: home.

We were never in any danger, but I'm quite relieved to be heading home. Mr B knows the bush very well and has been checking the location and movement of the fires to make sure that we were safe. On our way out of the bush, we spotted a horse in a yard. Its blanket had come loose, and it was in some distress, as it kept tripping over it. We tried to find its owners, but to no avail, so Mr B, despite feeling a bit intimidated by horses, ducked underneath the electric fence and took the blanket off the horse. We would have hated it to hurt itself trying to get free. He's basically our hero!

There's been a fire in Sunbury today too; again, nowhere near where we live, but still scary for a non-Australian like me.

Our adventures started here.
