Dawn's Journal

New Year's Day

The weather may have been murky and misty, and facebook warning "we may have to close the car park",  but I took the chance to head over to the National Trust's Knole Park for a walk and maybe a sight of some deer.

There was a queue to enter the park, but once inside the crowds seemed to disappear (or easily avoided!), and after visiting the Great Hall with traditional decorations, and grabbing a coffee, I headed into the deer park in search of the Sila and Fallow Deer which wild live here, the last Deer Park in Kent.

Today, there were 2 distinct herds: the boys had found a stash of hay in an old tree trunk.  Occasionally one would head up the hill to open pasture (main shot). The does formed the other herd, and were more sociable. They were grazing near the car park, to the delight of the young families.
