the jay, of course

They are so hungry. It's cold out there and I've had so many visitors to the bird table.

My white-tailed blackbird returned and saw off a few (but they returned when he had taken a break). Lots of little tits swarmed around (apparently, according to "Winterwatch" they prefer to feed in large numbers for safety). I even saw a tiny wren which I hadn't seen for two years. Missel thrush was back, and so were the robins. A solitary starling (clearly the cheapo fat balls are not to their taste) and a couple of magpies and pigeons.

But the jay, as ever, took pride of place - and the lion's share of the peanuts.
