the future's so bright...

.....I gotta wear shades.

The last morning of the decade dawned bright and frosty. The days are getting longer (4 whole minutes of daylight more than at solstice!).

On social media, people are posting a picture of themselves a decade ago side by side with one from today..what has changed?

I'm wondering what the world will look like 10 years from now, going into 2030. The world may not be brighter, but it will certainly be warmer. D and I talk about climate change often and veer between despair, acceptance and hope. Will governments look at what is happening in Australia and link it with an urgent need to act to reduce CO2 emissions? Are there ways in which we should be changing our behaviour to make even our small actions count? We will not be flying anywhere this year,  buying preloved clothes and books, eating vegan and learning to love what we already are fortunate enough to have, but I fear that this will not be enough to stop what feels inevitable.

Even so, we have no choice but to be positive or we wouldn't get out of bed in the mornings...so we will see in this new year quietly and thoughtfully, raising our glass of whisky at midnight to a brighter future for all in the year ahead. It's a beautiful world out there and I hope it stays that way for generations to come.
