Sunrise

Today started well but then went downhill.  I woke up to the sun rising over Morecambe Bay and reflecting in the water.  I took this picture looking down our front drive to record the vivid orange shapes on the tarmac.

No sooner than the sun had risen it was obscured by clouds that produced a constant drizzly rain.  We set off for Silloth hoping that it might be brighter by the coast.  We passed one brief sunny patch near Penrith but the weather soon was so dark that my car headlamps came on.  We reached Cockermouth where I got my directions completely confused and ended up on the road that heads back to Keswick over the Whinlatter Pass.  Never mind, I said,  let's do something else instead.  We decided we would head up to Uldale and visit Mae's Tearoom for a light lunch.  We duly arrived at the old school but found the door locked and seemingly nobody about despite a notice on the door stating that they would be open today.  Never mind, lets go to the Lakes Distillery down the road instead.  This was not such a good idea as the car park was full and the place was seething with people - we clearly were not going to be able to eat there.  We drove back up to the Carlisle road where we stopped at a hotel cum bar that advertised food every day.  In we went to be greeted by the chap behind the bar whose first words to us were, sorry but no hot food today.  Fortunately he was able to find us a sandwich.  We drove back home in the rain having driven about 140 miles for a sandwich and not a single photograph.
