Roses in December?

My folks returned home after the weekend with us, and as they were leaving I noticed the water droplets on this rose in the front garden and wondered whether I could get it inside to photograph it without disturbing the droplets. Turns out I could...

Not sure that roses should be blooming at the end of December in the Northwest of England though!  There was a touch of frost on the grass so the weather isn't totally weird.
