Up on the Roof

I hadn't particularly planned a walk today, but it looked such a nice day that I went out anyway. I took a slightly different route to my normal one , taking me across fields and through a small hamlet. There wasn't a great deal around, but the weather was mild and the low sun provided a lovely midwinter light. There were two Pied Wagtails surveying the scene from a farm building roof. Like Robins, although small, they give the impression of being in charge. I also spotted a Splitgill fungus (see extras) on a black plastic bale of silage. They were once uncommon but are a fairly frequent sight nowadays with the increase in the use of silage, which seems to provide the right conditions for them to fruit.
