York…
………………Minster
A Back Blip, uploaded Sunday 29th December for 19th May.
As there are no trains in the area where I live in NZ it is a novelty travelling on this mode of transport whenever I can while on holiday - so, today we travelled from Glasgow to York on the train.
My main photo is the magnificent York Minster in the evening light.
The extra photos include
Collage 1
Guy Fawkes. Showing the hotel where he was born in 1570, A locally brewed beer in the pub, which is claimed to be haunted, St Michael le belfry church where Guy Fawkes was Baptised in 1570.
Guy Fawkes became synonymous with the Gunpowder Plot, which has been commemorated in England since 5 November 1605 - ‘celebrated’ with bonfires and fireworks.
Collage 2
Ruins of St Mary’s Abby which fell victim to Henry VIII’s dissolution of monasteries in 1539. The Abby was the wealthiest and most powerful monastery in the North of England.
