Georgian Gothic
A relatively lazy day with a quick trip to Skibbereen to return some boots for #son1 which didn't fit - no problem. A stop off in Caheragh to blip this old building - some fine details now being swallowed by an enormous laurel tree. Reaching for my copy of The Gate Lodges of Munster : A Gazetteer (on everyone's wish list I'm sure) I can reveal more - built in 1845 as the lodge for Caheragh Rectory in a Georgian Gothic style. Single storyed, rubble built with harled finish, a lancet window to the road front (now obscured) and a flat arched casement to the avenue containing cast-iron latticed glazing inserts. Fascinating if rather mournful.
Catch you later, we're off to see Little Women which I think is meant to be rather good. Has anyone dared to see Cats yet?
