Evacuate!
I arrived at 9am.. long flight.. and a short flight but made it. 46C expected today and catastrophic fire conditions with hospitals and emergency services on high alert.
The first bushfire started late morning, by about 1pm we’d been upgraded to watch and act alert.. we packed to evacuate as the fire was heading in our direction. A few valuables, a change of clothes and off we went.
The wind change saved us. Otherwise the fire would’ve raged through our area and quite possibly the house would’ve been lost.. unfortunately it meant others in the opposite direction were in trouble.
A surreal experience, especially dazed and confused by jet lag.. but nowhere near as bad for those who will lose homes.
The photo - we escaped to the beach.
