Till I wake
This is the last illustration that Lorna painted to go with Laurence Hope's Four Indian love songs. The lyrics that Lorna cites read:
When I am dying, lean over me tenderly, softly...
Stoop, as the yellow roses droop
In the wind from the south;
So I may when I wake - if there be an awakening -
Keep what lulled me to sleep -
The touch of your lips on my mouth.
The words were put to music by HT Burleigh (another composer with an interesting life story), and various performances of the song are available on YouTube. There's one by Roderick George at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0IgOAIgivE.
