Occasional Musings

Better than Hedgehog flavoured crisps!

On Tuesday night my choir were entertaining in Seaham again (this time for the Townswomen's Guild) and afterwards, while having a coffee with C, we were discussing cake decorations as a friend of his had just brought out a book. C is a bit of a legend when it comes to all things baking and I was reminiscing about childhood birthday cakes aswell as describing the construction of this one.

My mum used to do a good line in Battenburgh cakes turned into Hansel+Gretel style cottages (one full cake for house and a diagonally-halved one to create the roof, decorated with sweets and stuff for windows and doors etc), butterflies (circular sponge halved into two crescents and the two crescent sides put together to make wings, with a flake down the middle for the body), and CHOCOLATE HEDGEHOGS!

As it was my birthday yesterday and another of our singer's birthdays today AND we had a rehearsal, C decided to get busy in the kitchen, creating this for me and a lemon-drizzle for T as a lovely suprise :)

Sorry... I started cutting BEFORE I remembered to Blip... but it WAS lovely!
