Darkling
A suitably dark but unmistakable image of a goldcrest for the winter solstice. Look at that sharp pointed beak, ideal for winkling insects out of crevices. These tiny birds betray their presence with high-pitched squeaks at this time of year. Won't be long until they start singing their springtime 'dee-diddley' song. :)
PS Edit: Silly me, I accidentally typed goldfinch instead of goldcrest originally. Goldcrests are, with the firecrest, the smallest birds in the UK.
