Soft light, hard light

Playing with light tonight. I was trying to create an overlap of the shadows from the apples, but my light sources were not cooperating unequal. My desk lamp seems to emit a much softer light, resulting in a poorly-defined shadow, than my harsh floor lamp, producing a crisp dark oval.

Another old friend is in town from Montreal right now, so some of us went out for Vietnamese food. I haven't indulged in a vermicelli bowl since I've been back from Calgary - where the Phos and Saigons are much more ubiquitous.

Felt strange going out on school night. Is this what normal people do when they don't have to study?
