What happen to the Republican Party?

As Republicans close ranks around the president,  in a party-line vote on impeachment over how Trump turned American policy in Ukraine toward his own ends, it makes me scratch my head.  Like Peewee Herman, their defense is, "I know you are, but what am I?"
They claim, Trump’s word is truth. And the federal employees who question his version of events are not just mistaken, they are “scum.” 
 But the defense mounted by Trump’s allies make perfect sense to those following live on social media, in groups sealed off from general scrutiny, where facts are established by volume, and confirmation comes from likes.
Let's hope truth prevails and all of our lawmakers honor country over party.

UPDATE:  Trumps was impeached.  "IMPEACHED" will now forever follow Trump through history, just like the toilet paper stuck on his shoe.
