Interesting Day

We awoke with a phone call telling us the replacement bit for our fire had arrived so we set of to collect it. A 70 mile round trip but evenings without the fire blazing seemed empty (even after such a short time) so it was urgent. Yes it snowed yesterday, the car needed scrapping to allow for any visibility from the inside and it looked a bit bleak today but this had to be done so off we went.
The journey was uneventful, apart from the blue skies and bright sunshine that we met soon after setting out. We picked up the part and started our return voyage, still in bright sunshine. The trip had gone so well we stopped at Sainsbury's, as we were passing it, for the monthly shop.
We were about an hour and had loaded two trollies or essentuals when someone suggested we look out the window. It was a whiteout. We quickly went through the checkouts and ventured outside into a car park that was full of white cars with rounded features. By the time we found the right car (now under 5 inches of new snow) and loaded it we were walking snowmen. Into the car we got to drive home, we thought. No, we joined a queue that did not move for almost an hour. A lorry had jack-knifed on the slippery hill into the car park and blocked us all in. We eventually escaped in time to join the gridlock on the A47, a problem highlighted on the radio every 15 minutes as we sat and waited and waited and waited. We were told 9 times that the A47 westbound was blocked and had long tail backs.

WE KNOW WE ARE IN IT.

The 45 minute journey took 3 hours plus and although we bought a months shopping there was nothing we could eat immediately, no bread or biscuits or sweets. Got close to chewing a pork chop raw but arrived home before I got so desperate. A six hour round trip
We did feature as top item on local TV news. Film showed people in snow covered cars with emotion etched on their faces. That was us, every time...
Fire is now working as is the red wine (maybe too well). Back on an even keel. See you all tomorrow.
