De Clutter Bug!

Meet my little friend....Mr Scarab, a resident of Egypt until a few years ago.

Today has been a totally 'at home' day doing what we really needed to do....more de-cluttering..but there is a goal in mind! At the beginning of February there's a flea market being held at one of the schools and we have the opportunity to reserve a space and sell off some of our most prized possessions!

During the ensuing mega sort out....I re-discovered Mr Scarab, lurking at the bottom of one of the boxes, sitting all on his ownsome and I wonder how he didn't get totally lost in transition from flat A to flat B!!! More to the point....how long would it have been before we even remembered he was missing....he who had faithfully perched, day after day, on the edge of my desk for all those years!

Our then Egyptian neighbour was so thrilled to be able to bring him for us when she returned from one of her holiday's back home to Alexandria.

Originally they were used as important seals and had inscriptions carved on their backs with the personal seal of the family carved neatly on their 'tummies'!

Nothing more than the portrayal of the common dung beetle to us, to the ancient Egyptians, the scarab was the great protector of all written products.

They eventually rose to fame in G. Wodehouse's novel - Something Fresh (1915) the plot of which involved the stealing of a rare Egyptian scarab.

British crime novelist Dorothy L. Sayers then went one step further when a scarab was skillfully catapulted at the victim and became the murder weapon.

Scarabs are still made as jewelry and one of the best-known makers is the iconic London-based jeweler, "The Great Frog"

Fascinating little bug.....fascinating piece of history, so glad to have you home again!!!!

Definitely pays to de-clutter!

Happy Blipping Everyone
