There and back again

Winter Feeding

Went out into a freezing cold morning today, the garage forecourt was a sheet of ice but no snow. On route to Lamberts Castle the roads became more icy and traces of snow began to appear, and on arrival it was no surprise to see the common covered in about 1" of snow and with the sun rising over the valley it was quite magical. As you can guess, I took dozens of snow scenes but the one that caught my eye was this small group of cattle from the resident herd which were feeding from some silage which had been put out by the farmer. They were unaware, and I suspect completely "Not bothered" about the scenery around them

Behind, the valley is still in shadow and the far hills are just beginning to show and the sun was making the sea off Portland shine.

Those of us who are free to wonder and stand and stare and admire the snow covered landscape, are just passing before heading back to out warm homes. It is the live stock and the farmers who I am sure see it in an entirely different way.
