Lives Taken/Last Supper

Ordered to ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’
or strictly instructed to
‘Dance Like No One Is Watching’
I mostly experience annoyance
at such nonsense

but when I see
‘LIFE is like good WINE…
best taken with FRIENDS’
I lean back in my chair
and stare at it a while.

Good wine has warmed my heart
and reddened my cheeks
and softened my critical faculties.
The world is wonderful
and my smile is that of an imbecile.

I survey my friends
who sit at table,
all well-fed and a little drunk now,
and I think ‘Yeah, I get it,
I get it exactly.’

And together we take our lives.
