Tai Tapu Library
Passing through Tai Tapu on the way home tonight, I turned off the Akaroa Rd to capture this blip of this charming little stone building.
The library was designed by architect Cecil Wood and built between 1931-2 in the Arts and Crafts style.
Sir R. Heaton Rhodes (of Otahuna) donated the land while the funding for the building came from the sale of bulbs by Rhodes' head gardener, Alfred Ernest Lowe (1851-1924).
The library and the adjacent St Pauls's anglican church were shut following the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010-2011, but unlike the significantly damaged St Paul the library was fortunate to be reopened last weekend.
