The Little Details
Huge news. Jason took Reuben to see the orthopedic Dr, taking turns as we do with the many appointments Reuben has and balancing keeping Callum away from hospital. After X-rays, they returned with the news that Reuben doesn't need to see the Dr for another 3 years, thus putting the spinal fusion surgery and halo wearing scenario further out of our lives. His spine is unchanged from last year. It is one Dr's opinion, but he happens to be considered the best in his field in the US. It's pretty wonderful news. One challenge he will continue to face though is that his titled neck through torticollis, is always questioned by kids. But therein lies the dilemma: the surgery itself would have required breaking his neck, grafting a bone from his hip and setting his neck so that he can never turn his neck to the right again. All for the price of a straight head (potentially) and protecting against scolliosis, the latter actually having been challenged as being at risk by not having the surgery. Too much risk for no guarantees?
We had a day at home again as I'm feeling a little run down, Callum and I, so he read two Bob Books, practiced letters, recorded some songs, listened to our songs, purged a few pictures from the burgeoning collection of artwork (with Callum's permission), managed an afternoon nap together and stayed warm. I can't believe we've had the heating on every morning and day as soon as the sun begins to go down. What a record cold winter it's been here in LA, this morning 34F.
I also love the gallery of these on the blog.
