beaks under blankets
Unfortunately, a number of the indistinguishable fen roads were blocked (albeit for resurfacing they all badly needed) but the remaining roads so often looked like dead-end farm tracks that they defeated my parents in their longer/wider car, resulting in them bailing and heading back home with Amos, who had unfortunately chosen their car to travel in. Nicky, Edgar and I eventually made it to the parrot zoo, now featuring big cats but still plenty of parrots of various types. Amos got an extra go in the outdoor swimbling pool instead, and fortunately did not seem upset at having seen no parrots. Many years ago our next-door-but-three neighbours' parrot escaped and was apparently roosting temporarily in the big tree opposite our house, though I couldn't see it and don't know if they ever persuaded it back into its cage.
