A historic world first.

A bright sunny day for our visit to the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.
The Museum has many features and it can take all day to see them.
But incorporated into it are the original buildings of the worlds first railway station built in 1830.

It was from here that Stephenson’s Rocket pulled the first trains which went from Manchester to Liverpool. It was sad that an MP called Huskisson was killed on the track on the first day the service ran.

We had hoped to the the original Rocket but it was on loan to the National Railway Museum in York.

My main blip shows the station although when it first opened it did not have a platform.
One extra shows the 1830 warehouse with a mural against the contrast of the cranes which are just two of very many which are putting up many high rise buildings. Manchester is flourishing like never befor.

The other extra shows the make up of the early trains with first class passengers having protection from the wearher.
