Asparagus

Today's the day ………………………… to confess

I'm a bit of a hypocrite, you know?

I bang on about how you really shouldn't eat fruit and vegetables out of their season.  I bemoan the fact that tomatoes (unless you've grown them yourself) are thick-skinned and tasteless - and that most of the apples in our supermarkets are not grown in the UK.  Surely, at one time, we had hundreds of local, delicious varieties of lots of fruit and veg that are now impossible to find?

But, here I am buying asparagus in December that was grown in Peru.  All this lot only cost £3 - but goodness knows the cost to the planet in flying it half way across the world to get it to me.  I really have no excuse whatsoever for buying it - least of all, the fact that it tastes good.

But I feel much better for having at least admitted my short-comings ……………………….?!
