The quarry hole.....

A wet start. It eventually dried up enough to get another field of cows and calves in and sorted out next door. Then ran them along the road to add to yesterday’s shed full here. Things starting to fill up now so don’t know where I’m going to hide the 9 that are still to calve when they eventually do. Also still have to wean my spring calving cows , and looks like I will need to mix and pump slurry next week as one tank is getting full .
An afternoon of Dad’s taxi duties again then back home to feed and bed cattle.
This is the sand and gravel quarry into its next phase . So far they have dug about 40 acres out of the 100 they are getting. They might be finished before I reach retirement age ! It’s depressing seeing fields I have farmed all my life disappearing in front of your eyes . The ones that have been reinstated will never be the same- for a start they are have lost about 20 feet of natural gravel drainage and the soil they put back has no worms and little fertility. But as a tenant farmer I don’t have much say in the matter !
